This design treats the “white cube” gallery as a set of rigid conditions to collage with maximum contrast into the decrepit interior of an old illegal hotel. With the project’s tight budget, this strategy focused on addition rather then the cost of subtraction for demolition. The main addition is a “sleeve” whose length and height are generated by 4×10 foot modules of Sheetrock, making a space used as both studio and exhibition space.
